A Funked up Night Of some great Funked up Funk bands.
Combinator wants you, and takes what it wants.
It will aurally seduce you with its sticky tendrils of funk and soul, pound your chest while spanking your butt with its punishing rock sensibility, and awaken your palette with its savory, worldly flavors. For out of the depths of the murky bog of stank which the forebearers did create many years ago, has crawled Combinator - the harbinger of vice and passion.
Combinator is coming, and there will be no mind, body, or spirit left unmoved.
Radio Raheem is a hip hop/new wave/soul/disco superbot Seattle band with a new record called Down for the Get Down. Band members are Josephine Howell on vocals, Bryan Cohen on Guitar, Paul Christofferson playing bass, Trevor Rasmussen on guitar/keys/sax and Zia Uddin rocking the drums with special guest Shock G rapping on “Push the Party”. To create its dance-o-licious sound the band traveled to 1983 and harnessed the energy of fifty 13-year-olds dancing to The Time played through a tape deck and then traveled back to the present, adding old school hip hop, toy pianos, fuzzed out guitars, synths run through guitar effects with lyrics about getting busy, atomic bombs, summers, zombies, robots, dancing and being a bad ass. Radio Raheem’s music sounds like Tears for Fears, Tina Turner (Beyond Thunder Dome), ABC, Depeche Mode, Run DMC, Gorillaz, Beck, Mavis Staples, Bay City Rollers, Talking Heads, U2 and Black Eyed Peas having a Jersey Shore level party with audio slices of Blade Runner, the Warriors, Jackie Brown and Cheech n’ Chong rolled in for good luck. Featured tracks are: Push the Party, Party Poppin, Calling the World, Summer Anthem, Glorius and Float your Heart.
Echoing the battle cry of Funk Diva Sharon Jones, "You've Got to FEEL it", Kissing Potion brings funk & soul to life, with a full horn section that brings new meaning to the phrase "FUNK YOU!", and a rhythm section whose groove will move you from your soul down to your toes!
Kissing Potion has been a long time in the making. The original concept was a ten member strong, all-female funk group, but then we met a few folks of the male-persuasion and couldn't resist asking them to join our lady-laden lair of FUNK.
